What should be my main focus for my report on 1920s jazz?
I have to write an Internal Assessment for my history class [yes, IB if you were wondering, lol] and the topic I chose was 1920s jazz.
My teacher wants us to write our thesis as a question, but it cant be a “how” question [i.e. "how did jazz influence the social standing of blacks?"].
I’m having a little trouble thinking of a question to use as my thesis. Any suggestions would be AWESOME. Just as long as it pertains to 1920s jazz and is not a “how” question.
Thank you!
Why did the Harlem Renaissance impact the social standing of blacks?
What elements of jazz impacted 1920’s society in regards to… [black society, etc.]?
You could also focus on what changes to musical culture in the 1920’s made “black” music (like jazz) more acceptable to white America. (It was just tame enough to appeal to the young society, etc.)
By examining the source of the change, you will be able to develop a solid thesis on jazz in regards to the social change (which it had a huge part in, as I’m sure you know) taking place during the 1920’s, especially in race-related issues.
