What is the differance between Jazz and Blues? They so sound similar&use the same instruments most of the time.
This may seem like a very dumb question to some. But I am not stupid,I am just not interested in this kind of music very much.Links are very welcome.
Sorry,It should be ‘they sound so similar’ not ‘they so sound similar’
Jazz is the daddy of blues (blues is in the category of jazz music). Jazz as a whole is an all-encompassing beast that is very free flowing, yet with set rules of music that must be followed, especially with chord structure, rhythm.
Blues MUST be in one of a few set formats based on simple chord progressions, and specific chords and scales. Blues is very difficult to master simply because of the locked in rules that must be followed. Jazz relaxes those rules a little and a lot and expands itself more, yet the “blues scale” is the heart of all jazz.
Yes, same instruments are used in both, but blues has always leaned toward the “poor man’s” instruments, easy to find, cheap to buy, get a sound the first time,… guitar, drums, bass, piano, and voice. Follow these with mastering the blues technique, as well as jazz itself.
It’s like rock’n'roll (another jazz baby!)… there’s metal, hard, pop, soft, classic… but to some it all sounds the same and they use the same instruments most of the time
, and the principles of jazz and blues are everywhere in it, and most popular music. Many of today’s top rock gutarists all have the blues at their core.
Jazz as a whole has long and broad history as the only true original American art form. Maybe visit http://www.pbs.org/search/search_results.html?q=jazz&neighborhood=none&btnG.x=8&btnG.y=8
There’s a few spots there that can show how truly deep your question is. Jazz ain’t for everybody, but it’s cool that at least you want to know more.
