Jazz Music History?
Hello
Anyone knows where I can find information regarding the history of Jazz music. More specificly I am looking for the evolution of Jazz music starting from Ragtime in the 1900 untill today.
The Leonard Feather book was used as a text book for a History of Jazz course I took in college. It’s good. Not great and not imperfect but good.
I think that you’ll need to get more than one viewpoint on the history of Jazz.
Here is one thing I can’t recommend highly enough, it’s a DVD documentary called “A Great Day In Harlem” and you can read a little more about it here: http://aebersold.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=D295&Category_Code=
It centers around this historic photo where they managed to assemble fifty-some of THE jazz greats in 1958 and the documentary tells a little about each of them and their place in the history of jazz. It’s really interesting and very entertaining as well as highly informative.
