What are some or all Jazz band instruments
I can’t believe that no one mentioned the Vibraphone!! Milt Jackson?? MJQ??? Lionel Hampton?? Cab Calloway??
Jazz ensembles come in a lot of different configurations, but the essential, to my ear, are:
Drums
Bass (stand-up)
Piano
Tenor Sax
Trumpet
Also commonly used in jazz:
Alto Sax
Soprano Sax
Guitar
Vibraphone
Clarinet
And less often:
Flute
Bass Clarinet (Eric Dolphy!!)
Flugelhorn
If we’re talking about a big band, or a “stage band”, you would add:
Trombones
Baritone Sax
