Lady Sings the Blues
$13.89 Diana Ross stars as legendary blues singer Billie Holiday in this biopic that chronicles her rise and fall. It begins with her late childhood, a stint as a prostitute, those early days as a blues singer, her marriages, and her drug addiction. Overly glossy and lacking depth, this is worth seeing only for the performances. Diana Ross was nominated for an Oscar for her acting debut. A dynamo with sp... |

Mo' Better Blues
$2.38 With Mo' Better Blues, the story of a young trumpeter's rise to jazz-world stardom, Spike Lee set out to counter Clint Eastwood's cliché-ridden biopic of Charlie Parker in Bird. But the final product, a slick, glossy drama (with hip-hop jazz provided by Gangstarr no less), is just as superficial as the numerous Alger-esque stories of music stardom to which movie audiences are accustomed. Denzel ... |

A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan
$7.49 Already a legend among musicians, Stevie Ray Vaughan was bringing new relevance and popularity to the blues when his career was cut short in a fatal helicopter accident following a 1990 concert appearance. His music offered the drama and sheer firepower of rock, and his flamboyant live shows likewise proved well suited to arena-sized crowds, yet there was little argument that Vaughan's fealty to t... |

Where should I go for the best blues/jazz music in New York City? We have one person who is 17?
Some of my friends and myself will be in NYC for 5 days next week. We really want to checkout the blues/jazz music scene, even if they are buskers (there are so many great musicians out there). However, we have one 17 year old with us thus restricting where we can go. I hope you guys can still help us out!
Thanks! Brian.
You’ll need to go to free jazz shows in the park. Sometimes there are free shows at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and sometimes they are free shows at Battery Park at the foot of Manhattan. Sometimes in Central Park.
