Can’t identify a symbol in a piece of jazz music?
My brother has a new piece of jazz music for trombone and there is a symbol he doesn’t recognize. It occurs between a quarter note F# and an eighth note G, and looks like an upside down “V” shape between the two. He has a recording of the piece and it sounds like the G is played just a little bit late, but no other difference is noticeable. I can’t find and explanation anywhere… can anyone tell me what this symbol is called, and what the purpose is? A website with a picture would be helpful so I can make sure it is the correct symbol.
that upside down V is supposed to mean that a person playing the trombone is to “slide” into the note, so to speak. If you play trombone, you’ll understand. Your brother will!
